Switzerland, also known as Confoederatio Helvetica, is a landlocked federal republic composed of 26 cantons (states) and bordered by Germany, France, Italy, and Austria and Liechtenstein. With a nominal per capita GDP of US$75,835, Switzerland is among the world’s richest countries. Its national currency, the Swiss Franc (CHF) remains one of the world’s strongest currencies with the lowest inflation.
Switzerland founded the European Free Trade Association but is not part of the European Union or the European Economic Area. The country continues to hold the highest European rating in the Index of Economic Freedom as of 2010.
